Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 24, 2026
This policy covers the BopBar app for Mac and this website. BopBar is made by YouMeApps ("we").
The short version
- BopBar has no accounts, analytics, advertising, or tracking.
- We don't collect or sell personal data, and we have no servers that receive any.
- Your settings stay on your Mac.
- If you email us, we use your address only to reply.
- The only thing BopBar sends anywhere is a song's title, artist, and album, to Apple, when it needs to look up missing album art. Like any web request, Apple also sees your IP address (details below).
- This website is hosted by Cloudflare, which sees standard request data such as your IP address.
What BopBar reads on your Mac
BopBar reads what's playing from Apple's Music app using AppleScript: the song, artist, album, artwork, playback position, and volume. It uses this only to show it in the menu bar and mini player, and to send the playback commands you choose. It doesn't keep a history of what you listen to.
Your settings (like display mode and accent color) are stored on your Mac in the app's preferences.
Album artwork lookup
When Music doesn't provide artwork for the current song (common for Apple Music streaming), BopBar looks it up from Apple:
- It first searches Apple's public iTunes Search service (itunes.apple.com).
- If that finds no match, it searches the public Apple Music website (music.apple.com) and downloads the matching cover from Apple's image servers (mzstatic.com).
- Only the song title, artist, and album are sent, as search terms. No account, device identifier, or listening history is sent.
- As with any web request, Apple receives your IP address. Apple's handling of it is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
- Downloaded covers are saved in BopBar's own storage on your Mac and never leave it.
Live Audio Spectrum
The spectrum is on by default, and you can turn it off during setup or at any time in Settings. macOS asks for your permission before BopBar can hear anything. When it's on, BopBar captures audio from the Music app only and analyzes it on your Mac, in real time, to draw the bars. The audio is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere, and it's discarded as soon as it's analyzed.
Crash reports
BopBar doesn't include a crash-reporting SDK and doesn't upload logs. If you choose to share analytics with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash and performance reports through App Store Connect.
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics, or tracking scripts, and everything on it is served from our own domain. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as your IP address) to deliver the pages and protect the site, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Email support
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you send so we can reply. We use it only to handle your message. We don't add you to a mailing list or share it.
Children
The BopBar app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your choices
Because we don't collect personal data, there's nothing for us to access, export, or delete. You can turn off the spectrum at any time in Settings. BopBar's settings and saved artwork live in the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.youmeapps.bopbar on your Mac. Delete that folder after deleting the app to remove them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
